This course provides a basic introduction to understanding of crime and deviance. It will introduce the history of crime, provide an overview of a selection of criminological theories, offer an insight into youth offending and provide a forum for discussion on various criminal justice perspectives. This course will not only appeal to the person considering an undergraduate degree in Criminology or Sociology but also to anyone who is interested in discussing how the criminal justice system works and why certain approaches are used in punishing and rehabilitating offenders in Ireland today.
